Sikkim To Open For Tourists From 1 October, No Registration Required
Sikkim is all set to start tourism activities in the state from 1 October 2020, the govt of Sikkim will also allow tourists to enter the state without any registration.
Sikkim has also permit hotels, homestays, and other tourism-related services to operate from 10th October 2020;
However, the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) area of Sikkim will be under complete lockdown for 7 days with effective from 21st September, to contain the spread of Covid-19.
A notification from principal secretary R Telang on Saturday stated that “It has been decided to allow free interstate movements of the people without any requirements of registration with effect from October 1 and also permits hotels, homestays, and other tourism-related services to operate from October 10.”
The health ministry will issue fresh Covid-19 guidelines for free interstate movement. Also, Inner Line Permits for foreign tourists with valid visas shall be issued from October 10.
The tourism ministry, in consultation with the Ministry of Health, will issue a Standard Operation procedures (SOPs) for the operation of tourism-related services.
The helicopter service shall resume regular operations from October 1. Odd-even restrictions on the movement of taxis and passenger vehicles shall be lifted on the same day. Private vehicles shall still follow these restrictions till further orders, said Telang.
The notification further read, “after careful consideration of the situation, it’s been decided to go for a week-long lockdown within the Gangtok Municipal from September 21 September 27”
